An anonymous man, by the name of LegEagle, has been sewing seeds for Ricky Braddy on the American Idol Forums. LegEagle is one among many fans who never knew a thing about Ricky before the first live episode of American Idol (Season 8); But, by observing Ricky’s one and only live performance, LegEagle has become a committed and passionate fan! Within the Forum on American Idol’s site, you will find multiple threads started in regard to Ricky, his flawless performance, and the unfair treatment he has been given by American Idol producers and judges. LegEagle has written many intellectual and thoughtful posts about Ricky. Below is a post submitted by LegEagle on the recent thread, Ricky’s Revolution (page 2):
Typically in these roundhouse discussion forums concerning “Idol”, the commentators tend to critique the vocal proficiency of the contestant whom the forum concerns. Has anyone noticed during the course of the past week since the opening singing round (Contestant Pool Number One) that in the countless opinions submitted on myriad forums virtually no one has offered a negative remark about Ricky Braddy’s singing abilities nor especially his performance last Tuesday? Of course, there is good reason for that; The reason is that Braddy is a superb singer and served up a terrific performance during his one lone spotlighted appearance on “Idol” last Tuesday night. And what does he get for it? Ousted, that’s what. Since Braddy’s dismissal last Wednesday, there’s been a good deal of head-scratching and theories expoused from all over the country why he is no longer in the competition. It didn’t boil down to a bad singing performance, that’s for sure. In fact, the reviews from a variety of media outlets as well as scores of reasonable people who have the ability to appreciate good singing are uniformly laudatory. From reports I’ve heard, even Melinda Doolittle, someone who knows her stuff, musically speaking, is on board for Braddy. Fact is, we all know a good cut of meat when we bite into it, and no one’s fooling us when we’re told that the slice is of inferior quality. Braddy, in my humble opinion, didn’t make the cut for a couple of key reasons, chief among those (as I have repeatedly clammored) is that Idol producers didn’t have the foresight to feature him (as a viable contender) during the audition rounds, which, unlike in the case of Danny, Anoop, Michael Sarver, Alexis, Lil Rounds, etc.., didn’t give the TV viewing public (the voters) a chance to “like” Ricky, and form an emotional bond with. I think this factor cost Braddy a huge number of votes. Next, Simon, in critiquing Ricky’s performance, gave us yet another reason to shake our heads in collective puzzlement. Simon Says that Braddy has no charisma. At the moment Simon uttered these words, I laughed out loud in the way I often do when he makes these wild nonsensical, totally unsupported personal remarks about a contestant. After all, how does Simon or anyone for that matter know with any degree of certainty what kind of personality Braddy has —-heck, no one was given a chance to observe him or learn anything about him at all thanks to Idol producers. The trouble about this kind of trite rhetoric is that Simon’s oft-distorted views about a performer in a personal context are often accepted as true by a large segment of the viewing public, which naturally translates to a predictable course of action taken en masse by TV Land: Something always negative. That’s why on these discussion forums the ONLY negative thing posters are offering is remarks like Ricky is “boring” or “not charismatic”, loose observations that have been haphazardly tossed out in the breeze without actual foundation, being made with hasty, truly uninformed judgment, or manipulated by Simon Cowell’s words. Yet, in speaking to the issue of charisma, the video evidence at hand belies what Simon Says ( and what some posters suggest) about Braddy’s alleged lack of charm or appeal. Just watch the video replay of last Wednesday’s show after Braddy learned he had been booted and you’ll see what I mean. He danced around with his fellow contestants, beaming brightly, joining in the singing, offering eager support and encouragement, and giving every impression that he has a fine personality. On top of that, I think Ricky’s amusing videos on other websites conclusively dispells Simon’s rather delusional views about the issue of his charisma.
I’m pretty sure that anyone who watches “Idol” with any sort of regularity desires, like I do, a fair, well-balanced, and entertaining competition. To do that, we need the likes of Ricky Braddy in the show. As of today, he’s not there, through no fault of his own, but because of a quirk of shortsighteness imputed to Idol producers (who would rather take up precious air time to pander to the weird or absurd contestants) and by misperceptions bearing upon his personality perpetrated by a judge who didn’t know any more about it than all of us who had been kept in the dark prior to his Tuesday night performance. The blogs around the web reflect a growing multitude of people who appreciate Braddy’s singing abilities and want him back on the show.
Alot of us are calling it “The Ricky Revolution”. I just call it being fair.
